Charged additional for something out of my control and threatened to pay 12 weeks before arrival

Unfortunately had my booking moved twice due to covid, each time going up in price, and their next availability was in June. So I was told it was £153 more...A bit frustrating but I get it, I told them I would pay on arrival.I was told closer to the booking (Today) I would lose the booking by 5pm tomorrow unless I paid the extra - even though I had £950 already paid from the last time we had move. And the booking is in June....Big shame as I've been to forest holidays a few times with the family and liked the place. But when the billing team want to give their customers ultimatums after waiting almost 8 months to go and use one of their cabins I think they've been a bit short-sighted.We will be going to a different provider/site next time.

Covid-19 restrictions

Having been to different locations throughout the North of England, it is clear that myself and my extended family love our annual trips to the Forest Holiday cabins! However, I wanted to make sure I left this review in response to the management of the COVID-19 restrictions. We were due to have our trip on 1st January but it was cancelled due to the new lockdown. I quickly received an email explaining the situation and our options. And today I have received a full refund (including deposit). Thank you so much to your staff for your efforts to keep us informed and for the prompt return of our fee. We were truly devastated to have to cancel (our little treat at the end of a stressful year) but your efforts & communication meant that the tough news did not also come with stressful processes to navigate! Thank you to all of your staff! Silver linings - we will be booking an alternative date when things are back up and running - so something to look forward to!!

Amended due to lockdown

Called today to amend my reservation that was due to start next week, got through to Amanda in under 5 minutes- I was expecting to wait a lot longer! My booking was changed over so quickly and efficiently, and with a refund to add. I work for a short breaks company so know how busy they must be at the moment and was really impressed. Thank you!

Cancelled due to COVID and then ignored

We had to cancel because of COVID and using the three different emails we had, we let the Strathyre property know. However we received a call at 7pm on what would have been our arrival date asking us where we were. Then two days later we received a call again asking us where we were. Long story short, they agreed to refund the costs of our pre-booked meals, late check-out and specific cabin request. This wasn't ideal as we still stood to lose over £900 but anyway, four weeks on and we have got nothing back, not even a call or email.

In the cabins at cropton Yorkshire it like a cheap caravan dirty and worn . Can’t believe the price they charge for the cabin . Complained about the cabin sent in the head house keeper she was lovely but the furniture beyond cleaning grotty and old. Won’t be returning back .

Deep cleaned cabins...I don’t think so!

After a lovely short break in Thorpe Forest a couple of years ago, and because of not travelling abroad due to COVID-19 we decided to book a week in The Forest of Dean.We understood that we could not check in until 4pm due to the deep cleaning of the cabins. Well, We are very disappointed in the standards that Forest Holidays consider to be deep cleaning. The toilet hinges, shower hose, sink taps and shower screen hingers were filthy. There were chips in the plaster in the lounge on part of the wall. The. Kitchen waste bin was dusty and there were cobwebs on light fittings! The hot tub got a quick wipe over each day apart from when it was emptied. On day 5, a clean bedding pack with a clean tea towel, washing up cloth etc was left along with a clean bath mat...... no clean bath or hand towels! It’s a good job I took my own supply of tea towels, as two per week is very poor. The cabins are very close together which leads to the hot tubs being over looked, we could clearly hear our neighbour’s conversations.BASICALLY UNIMPRESSED Considering we paid over £1400 for the week, we feel that we were ripped off. Will not be using Forest Holidays again in The Forest of Dean.

I’ve stayed in 3 different forest…

I’ve stayed in 3 different forest holiday locations with my young family. Blackwood Forest, Forest of Dean and Sherwood. All three were amazing, staff were friendly and helpful, and luckily every cabin was faultless, and spotless. I’ve booked some different locations for the end of this year, and I’m very confident we won’t be disappointed. Thank you to all at FH’s for working through this awful pandemic, and keep up the excellent work.

5-star prices for 2-star accommodation!

5 star prices for 2 star accommodation!Very expensive - £1,000+ for 3 nights in a tired one-bedroom cabin that needed refurbishment. Also 4pm check-in and 9am departure really costs the break short. Not exactly a peaceful forest retreat, the cabins are super close to each other and your hot tub is overlooked by at least 2 other cabins. Employees jump over the fence to service your hot tub without knocking - embarrassing my partner who was breastfeeding at the time. To top it all there's no cleaning and guests are expected to leave the plates etc. clean at the end - never again

Just returned from Sherwood Forest

Just returned from Sherwood Forest. The Treehouse we stayed in was less than luxury, sort of 2* at most. Loose lavatory seat, dust & cobwebs on windows, Venetian blinds not working, hot tub too hot and low on water, BBQ slight warmth - most BBQ food cooked in the oven, water constantly running in one toilet, pool of water under the boiler, Outside table & chairs filthy. Beds hard. The truth is that the 'cabin' is aged and showing it. It needs a great deal of maintenance. The price is far too high. However, it's a great experience being in the 'trees' pity about the accomodation.

My feedback is based upon the customer…

My feedback is based upon the customer service and lack of transparency on the website of the check out times. I've not visited as yet but booked a Friday to Monday getaway in August to the black forest. They are not cheap but the thought of 4 days in the forest would be a nice break plus it may be our last holiday with out dog. On the website they give you flexibility to extend the check in/out time at an extra cost so I didn't think too much at the time.On paying I received confirmation of the booking and in light colour the checking in and out times were confirmed which had changed from when I booked. Naturally the changes were due to COVID but the changed times were clearly not confirmed prior to the booking. All information comes once you have paid!!! Check in is now confirmed at 5pm on Friday and check out is 9am on Monday!!! Great!!! That will be fun to wake up, feed, dress the kids, load the car all before 9am!!! When looking at the value, I'm paying £1,200 just for 2 days!!!! Be aware of the small print, lesson learnt. I've emailed customer service to ask for an extension to the check in which I was willing to pay, they have declined. There is no negotiation or possibility to get my money back. Tried calling and call doesn't go through, no one ever is on the live chat. Emails from customer service are blunt and to the point. It's not a good start and already lost faith in the company. Was looking forward to the stay and now I am somewhat nervous now.

I like many others had my holiday…

I like many others had my holiday cancelled due to Covid 19 that was in March.I was told at the time no refund was to be given only a credit note.I'd lost my job so the refund wouldv'e been most welcome but no money was forthcoming. Then last week I wrote to head office saying I would like a refund, had a reply straight away saying they would refund me but it could take up to10 days, next the full refund was in my bank account. It took a long time to get my money back but I'm so pleased they did.Thank you.
